Genograms present a mechanism of identifying strengths and resources of individuals and families within a life cycle framework. While understanding dysfunctional patterns is essential to treatment, identifying strengths is also the foundation that directs intervention. Genograms have been used to help practitioners understand the family context, to trace behavior and problems of family members, and to identify patterns and issues within families. As a visual assessment tool, the genogram can be used to trace family influences in various contexts as well as in the broader system (McGoldrick & Gerson, 1985). Review of LiteratureĪ genogram is a graphic representation of family members and their relationships over at least three generations. These family strengths have been applied to a Family Integrated Genogram (FIG) as an effective approach for understanding African American families. They are identified as some of the major strengths of African American families (Billingsley, 1992, 1999 Hill, 1997 Hines & Boyd-Franklin, 1996 Pipes, 1997). This article describes and promotes the use of the family genogram with African American families as a means of adapting identified family strengths and family resources of spirituality, religion, and extended family networks. Such a perspective also involves the ability of practitioners to recognize and employ resources and strengths of African American families. Effective practice with African American families requires understanding family strengths, resources, and dimensions of African American past and present family life. With families from diverse backgrounds, practitioners must be culturally competent to avoid culturally oppressive practices with clients (Chin, De La Cancela, & Jenkins, 1993 Montague, 1996 Sue & Sue, 1990). The genogram can be especially useful when working with diverse cultural groups-especially African American families-to promote cultural knowledge (Bean, Perry, & Bedell, 2002 Thomas, 1998). ![]() It represents a large quantity of complex family information (Stanion & Papadopoulos, 1997) and can effectively illustrate family data, family history, family systems, and intergenerational transmission (Hardy & Laszloffy, 1995 Hartman & Laird, 1983 Kilpatrick & Holland, 2003 McGoldrick, Gerson, & Shellenberger, 1999). Diagrammatically, the genogram is an intergenerational map of three or more generations of a family and a primary assessment tool that focuses on intergenerational patterns and relationships among family members (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2000 Hartman, 1995 McGoldrick, Gerson, & Shellenberger, 1999). Next, she describes an integrated genogram model that may help social workers and practitioners recognize and employ recognized culturally connected family strengths and resources for work with African American families. We make metal clips of all descriptions, from money clips to belt clips to fasteners in a wide variety of materials. What are those metal clips called?įourslide can help you if you call it a metal clip, a clasp, a catch, a latch, or a spring clip. It is designed to be attached to the back of a cord, but can also be mounted on a wall or ceiling. This cord tensioner can be used to tighten or loosen the tension on your cords. The rotating clips on the end of the bulldog or alligator clips allow you to pull your cord from any direction, because the clip on the end of the cord is always pointing in the same direction. Some of the more popular brands of zinc-coated clips include: Zippo, Ziploc, Zip-Ties, Tug-O-Lanterns, etc. The zinc coating on these clips makes them more resistant to corrosion than other types of steel clips, and they are also more durable than the standard steel clippings. These clips are available in various thicknesses, from 1/4″ to 3/8″ thick. The most common type of clip used in the United States is a zinc coated steel clip, also known as a “Z-Clip”. Zinc or nickel plated steel is the most cost effective material to use in a clip. This can be a little tricky, because you want to be careful not to damage any of the internal components.Ĭlips are made with zinc or nickel plated steel, stainless steel, solid copper, gold plating and even nickel-silver. It’s also a good idea to get a pair of pliers so that you don’t have to use a screwdriver to remove the old clip. You can buy a new clip from a hardware store for about $10, which is a pretty good price for a clip that’s going to last a long time. If it’s not, then you’ll need to replace it with something that is. The first thing is to make sure that the clip is clean and free of dirt and corrosion. If the clips are dirty or corroded, you could wind up with a lot of resistance. ![]() If you don’t have a car charger, you can use the same method to charge the battery from a wall outlet. The red lead is connected to the positive terminal of the car with a crocodile clip. How do you hook up crocodile clips to a car battery? It consists of one wire connected to one terminal of the other wire. Twisted pairs are used for a variety of reasons, such as when you want to run a cable from a computer to a TV, for example. The most common type of cable connector is called a twisted pair, and is used to connect two wires together. Be careful not to pull too hard, or you may damage the connector. The best way to do this is to use a pair of pliers to gently pry the ends of each wire apart. You’ll also need to make sure that the wires are not touching each other, as this can cause a short. ![]() If you do, you’ll have to cut the wire off and re-solder it, which can be a bit of a pain. This is a good idea if you have a lot of wire and you don’t want it to come loose. Some alligator clips use screws to secure the wire to the cable. What is the screw for on an alligator clip? Croc clips can also be used with other types of snakes, such as rattlesnakes, boa constrictors, cobras, etc. The snake is held in place by the croc clip, which is attached to the end of the snake’s tail. The crocodile clip is used to fasten a snake to a tree branch or a fence post. Alligator clips, plier clips, and snake clips are typically made from steel or copper.

Depending on the HID or LED product, some may dim, whereas others will run at full brightness. Most DRLs run on PWM (pulsing signal), and the decoder will smooth out the signal allowing the bulb to perform correctly. DRL (Daytime Running Lights)įor vehicles that utilize a DRL, it is REQUIRED to use a decoder add-on for both LED products, as well as HID CANBUS kits. Ballasts require a higher than normal amount of power upon startup, and some vehicle's are unable to provide ample wattage thus requiring either a relay harness or canbus module. When running a standalone kit (no relay or canbus module), the HID product is relying on the vehicle's stock wiring to power up the bulbs. When installing HID, it is always best to select a relay harness regardless to prevent limitations from the stock wiring, and add a CANBUS style ballast/kit depending on the model (see below). Some vehicles even require driving for a few minutes (please do this safely during the daytime and not on public roads). Please check by removing the original bulb in question, start the vehicle, wait at least 30 seconds, and check to see if there is an error on the dashboard. This is a general list, and your vehicle's electrical system may vary. Double-Check First (bulb-out error messages) If the bulbs do not power on, try this first. Some vehicles have reversed polarity, meaning it will be required to re-pin or re-wire by flipping the wires either on the HID or LED system or the vehicle's system. This also helps to prolong the life of the product, much like a surge protector or battery backup does for a home computer. They can also prevent flickering due to the CANBUS or Decoder module, which is essentially a capacitor (type of power supply) which takes the uneven power from the vehicle and helps to create a more linear signal going into the new components. HID CANBUS version kits and LED decoder add-ons are designed to prevent warning signals/errors from appearing on the vehicle's dashboard after replacing the incandescent/halogen bulbs. Below is a list of Vehicles that typically require the CANBUS (for HID kits) or Decoder option (for LED kits). ![]() You can see part one and the process I went through to get her up on the platform on day one. If you are interested in seeing her progress, check out our YouTube page. ![]() I will work with her for the next few days and in no time, I anticipate being able to stand back with Lady between two platforms and giving the command, pointing to the platform I want her to go sit on. That, however, will change as she gets more accustomed to the drill. I had to be right next to her and it still required the leash. With two 6-minute sessions interrupted by a few fun-retrieves to maintain her focus and excitement… She was stepping up onto the platform. So, I am relying on her understanding of pressure to help her capture the concept of PLACE. Lady thoroughly understands the idea behind pressure on and pressure off. As soon as her feet were on the platform, I released the pressure on the leash and immediately poured on the praise.Īt 5 years-old, I have stopped the treat training. ![]() I keep the slight pressure on the leash until all four feet are on the platform. With the leash in this position, I can exert pressure on the dog while giving the command PLACE and walking towards the platform. When Lady and I worked on this drill, I used the Dokken Pro6 Leash in the obedience training position (connect the clip to the sliding O-ring and slide the loop over the dog’s head). ![]() Starting with an Older Dog This is a great training tool that every dog trainer should have in his or her bag. Remember, trainer problems (losing patience) will result in dog problems. If your dog does this, don’t give up and DON’T LET YOURSELF GET MAD AT THE DOG. Eventually, she started to get the idea of what I was expecting.Īt first, however, she was jumping the platform, running around the platform, and even trying to run away from the platform. She was not crazy about the idea of getting onto the platforms at first. The first time we went out, I had a couple of platforms I made out of 3 2×4’s and some plywood. So, I am going to see if I can teach an old dog new tricks. I worked Lady (my five-year-old Labrador Retriever) with this command when she was a little pup, but we have not returned to review it for over four years. What if you are starting with an older dog? It is still possible to introduce hand signals for retrieving dog training. Here are some more ideas for puppy training. This is all you need to do while your puppy is little.Įventually, you will be able to give the command and your puppy will go to the bed on his own.Įven when your dog is going to the bed on his own and you have moved away from the treats, make sure that you start by getting his attention with his name and then pointing to the bed with your hand when you give the command. Now repeat the process over and over again. So, as your puppy follows your treat-laden hand towards the dog bed repeat the command PLACE.Īs soon as all four feet are on the bed, give the puppy the treat. To begin, call your puppy by name to get his attention and give the command PLACE.Īt the same time move your hand towards the dog bed. If your puppy knows that you have the treat in your hand, then the puppy’s stomach will lead it to follow your hand. If you are using treats with your little guy or gal, put the treat in your hand and point to the dog bed. Check out this post to see some of the different platforms I have used. Eventually, you will want to build a few of these platforms to take with you into the field. You will need to have some kind of platform for your puppy’s “destination” when you give the command. PLACE is one of the first commands you will teach your dog that has your puppy going in a direction other than towards you. You can lay the foundation, however, at this stage. If you have a new puppy, then this may take you a little longer, because you will need to let your puppy develop the maturity necessary to master the commands. Well, I am going to show you what it takes and convince you that with just 10-15 minutes you and your dog can become the envy of the duck blind or upland game hunts. I assumed that I could never train a dog to respond to whistles and hand signals. If you are like me, you might think that such a dog would never be in your future. I have seen this happen, and I salivated. Another moment passes and the retriever is returning with the bird in mouth. His dog resumes the hunt in the correct direction.Ī moment later, the dog catches a whiff of the downed bird. The handler then throws a hand up and to the left and gives a command. The dog spins and sits with one blast on the whistle. Have you ever watched someone send their dog out for a blind retrieve? It is so amazing to watch. ![]() (1970) Thermal Properties of Transition Metal Compounds. (1984) Enthalpies of Sublimation of Transition Metal Complexes, J.
